He began his career playing R&B for Earl Bostic and later soul jazz recording for the Blue Note label from 1960, touched on jazz fusion during a stint on CTI in the 1970s. Turrentine was married to organist Shirley Scott in the 1960s, with whom he frequently recorded, and was the younger brother of trumpeter Tommy Turrentine. Best of Stanley Turrentine. Here you have the absolutely best songs of Stanley Turrentine from the seventies on one album, Salt Song - Sugar - Don't Mess With Mr T - Speedball that was on the original LP album that I prefer but here with four titles added. Much as I love his sixties Blue Notes, Stanley was never better than this. This was the first album of his I bought, and I was stimulated to buy many more but was mostly disappointed and this still stands out as the best of the bunch.
