Drake Salt Peanuts Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny Clarke All the Things You Are Jerome Kern, at Massey Hall is a live jazz album featuring a performance by The Quintet given on 15 May 1953 at Massey Hall in Toronto. The quintet was composed of five leading 'modern' players of the day: Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach. It was the only time that the five men recorded together as a unit, and it was the last recorded meeting of Parker and Gillespie. Jazz at Massey Hall - The Quintet. This concert was held at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada on May 15, 1953, and was recorded by bassist Charles Mingus, who overdubbed some additional bass parts and issued it on his own Debut label as the Quintet's Jazz at Massey Hall. Compositionally, Jazz at Massey Hall leans heavily on the bebop book developed by Gillespie, and includes Salt Peanuts, Wee, and A Night in Tunisia. Also featured are Tadd Dameron's Hot House, the Ellington standard Perdido, and All the Things You Are. Initially released on Debut Records, a label co-owned by Mingus and Roach, the sound quality is certainly of the time, but has benefited over the years from digital technology. This album is great fun, and sounds pretty decent considering the technology for live recording available at the time. The interaction between the players is fun and the performance comes to life on this record. I enjoy it quite a bit. Songs in album The Quintet' - Jazz At Massey Hall 1953. Charlie Parker ft. The May 15, 1953, concert at The Massey Hall, Toronto has been dubbed The Greatest Jazz Concert Ever due to the unique and solitaire ensemble line-up of five of the major bop pioneers, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach. Charles Mingus released the live recording in 1956 on his Debut Records after having the bass playing dubbed and the bass solo on All the Things You Are altered. Jazz as a style collective had begun to fray and Be Bop yielded to a variety of styles all considered reactions to Be Bop's frenetic, nervous nature. All of that said, on May 15, 1953, in Toronto's Massey Hall, Be Bop in all of its brilliant invention was alive, well, and in charge. Sponsored by the New Jazz Society of Toronto, the program brought together perhaps THE five principal architects of Be Bop: Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach. The story surrounding these recordings is an improvisation worthy of the improvisers. Álbum 1952 6 canciones. Pruébalo gratis
